At WTER, we have a different outlook on media representation.  We believe that the local and regional media platforms play an important role in providing news and information to the public, but we want to provide the information behind the sensationalism and “hype” that the stories are often lost within.  For example, Lindsay Lohan.  National media puts Lindsay out on display for her car accidents, arrests, and other bizarre behavior.  This brings viewers and listeners to the table.  At WTER, those things would not be the subject of our discussion.  We would be discussing the mental health issues, the types of treatments, therapy, medications (modern or holistic) used to treat the issues behind what causes this type of breakdown in behavior.  We would focus on the fact that there are many people in the world who suffer from the same type of issues who are not receiving the help or attention they need because they are not a famous movie star.  We would cover topics like insurance:  what type is needed, what may or may not be covered under someone’s insurance plan, and how people aren’t able to receive the help they need because of a lack of coverage.
